Senior cornerback Mike Echols has been named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week and UW Athlete of the Week for his performance in the Badger football team's 20-17 comeback victory at Ohio State last Saturday.
Echols recorded a season-high 11 tackles against the Buckeyes, including three tackles for loss, two quarterback sacks, one pass breakup, one forced fumble and a quarterback hurry. Echols, a native of Youngstown, Ohio, was playing in his home state on his birthday.
Wisconsin fell behind 17-0 in the game before the Badger defense shut down the Buckeyes in the second half, holding OSU to just 62 yards in total offense, including minus-4 yards rushing.
