December 06, 2001 | Football
Senior defensive tackle Wendell Bryant received another postseason honor today as he was named to the 2001 AFCA Coaches' all-America Team. Bryant, the Big Ten's Defensive Lineman of the Year, joins North Carolina's Julius Peppers, Dwight Freeney of Syracuse and Tennessee's John Henderson on the defensive line.
Bryant led the Badgers and tied for second in the Big Ten with eight quarterback sacks this season and added a team-high 17 tackles-for-loss. His 13 quarterback hurries and two fumble recoveries were also tops on the team.
The AFCA's Division I all-America selection Committee is made up of three head coaches from each of the AFCA's eight I-A districts. The coaches in each district are responsible for ranking the top players in their respective districts.
