Badgers, Marquette Play To 2-2 Tie

For the second consecutive year, and third time in the last four meetings, the Wisconsin and Marquette men's soccer teams went home without a loser as the teams took tonight's game through double overtime to a 2-2 decision at the McClimon Soccer Complex.
After trailing 2-1 at halftime, Wisconsin evened the score just 8:38 into the second half as senior Dominic DaPra gained control of a misplayed ball by MU goalkeeper Adam Ubert and fired it past a defender for his ninth goal of the 2001 season. Ubert made seven of his nine saves in the second half and two 15-minute overtime periods to deny the Badgers victory on their home field.
Badger senior Aaron Lauber put Wisconsin on the board in the 14th minute, crossing a header into the far corner of the net off a well-placed free kick from defender Scott Repa. The Golden Eagles pulled even at the 29:24 mark when Zach McCallum played a through ball to freshman Chris Lee who fired a bullet past UW goalkeeper Moriba Atiba Baker.
Marquette gained a 2-1 advantage off a header by Jeff Gerlesits at 37:16 set up by senior Sean Reti with a lob from near the goal line.
Less than a minute into overtime, Wisconsin had a key scoring opportunity off a corner kick but Repa's shot was denied by a diving save by Ubert.
Wisconsin and Marquette have taken their annual matchup to overtime six of the last seven seasons.
The Badgers continue a three-game home stand on Sunday, hosting 10th-ranked Ohio State for Wisconsin's Big Ten opener. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
