The Wisconsin men's soccer team kept pace with No. 11 UW-Milwaukee throughout regulation and into overtime Wednesday night, but UW-M's Antou Jallow deflected the ball past Badger keeper Eric Hanson at the 92nd minute for the 1-0 sudden-death decision at the McClimon Soccer Complex.
The win marks UW-M's tenth-straight victory, while Wisconsin enters the UW Soccer Fest Weekend with an overall record of 7-6-0 and 1-2-0 in Big Ten competition.
'I thought we played a good first half, but we didn 't get into a good flow during the second half,' Wisconsin head coach Jeff Rohrman said. 'The Panthers created good chances in the second half and they finished the chances they got.
'I can't fault our guys' effort tonight though. They showed a lot of heart and fight and competed for the entire game. We 've got to do a better job of rewarding ourselves for the effort we put in. '
During regulation, both teams produced several scoring opportunities, including a high shot-on-goal by Wisconsin senior Aymar Sinaise at 43:51, but defense across both teams remained strong.
Overall in goal, Hanson recorded six saves for Wisconsin, while UW-M keeper Chris Dadaian collected just one save for the Panthers. On the attack, UW-M outshot Wisconsin 17-6 overall.
Jallow scored his lone goal of the game after correcting a shot by teammate Chad Dombrowski past Hanson in the Badger net at 92:58.
The Badgers kick off UW Soccer Fest Weekend with the Wisconsin women 's soccer team Friday night at the McClimon Soccer Complex. Following the women 's game against Ohio State at 5 p.m., the men take on Ivy League opponent Dartmouth at 7:30 p.m. The Big Green improved its record to 2-6-1 this past Sunday after posting a 2-2 overtime tie against Yale.
The Badgers return to Big Ten play against Michigan (4-6-1, 0-3 Big Ten) on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 2:30 p.m. to wrap up the soccer alumni weekend.
