Women's Soccer Falls to Ohio State
October 18, 2002 | Women's Soccer
The Wisconsin women's soccer team fell to the Ohio State Buckeyes, 1-0, Friday night at the McClimon Soccer Complex. The Badgers drop to 7-6-3 overall and 3-3-2 in the Big Ten.
'Our timing was off,' coach Dean Duerst said. 'We were not sharp today.'
Neither the Badgers nor the Buckeyes had many good opportunities on net. Statistically, the two teams were very even, with OSU outshooting UW by just two (14-12). Both goalkeepers made five saves apiece.
On a windy, chilly night, the Buckeyes scored their lone goal off the foot of Lisa Grubb. Grubb took the ball up the left side and crossed the ball towards the middle. The ball took a wicked curve and fluttered past a diving Kelly Conway. The low roller dribbled to the far post to give OSU its 1-0 lead at 13:33.
Sophomores Amy Vermeulen and Molly Meuer and junior Jenny Kundert tallied shots on goal for the Badgers. Wisconsin also held a 7-4 advantage on corner kicks.
'You have to turn around and play Sunday,' Duerst said. 'That's the most important message for us; preparation for the next match. Look ahead, look forward.'
Wisconsin faces No. 9 Penn State Sunday at noon at the McClimon Soccer Complex.
