Erin Byrd Named Academic All-District

Erin Byrd, a senior on the Wisconsin volleyball team, has been named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District V Second Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced today. Byrd has a 3.51 grade point average in international business.
To qualify for the Verizon Academic All-District ballot, student-athletes must have a minimum 3.20 cumulative GPA and be a starter or important reserve.
The 6-0 outside hitter leads the 14th-ranked Badgers with 4.15 kills per game and has put down 20-plus kills in four matches this season. She is also hitting a career-best .270 percent. Byrd has a team best 272 digs (2.99/game) and ranks second on the team with 32 service aces (0.35/game
Since her freshman season, Byrd has been one of the Badgers most consistent players. A four-year starter, the 6-0 outside hitter has played in 434 of 440 games in her career. She has been the team's defensive leader all four seasons including this year.
Byrd moved into second on the UW career list for digs with 1,316 and also moved into ninth on the career list for kills with 1,131. She needs only two kills to move into eighth and 31 kills to move into seventh. Byrd also ranks eighth in total attack attempts (3,205); ninth in service aces (111); 15th in block solos (35); 12th in games played (434) and tied for 14th in matches played (125).
Byrd has set career bests in every statistical category this season including a career-high 24 digs at Penn State. She has recorded double-figure kills in the 14 of the last 15 matches and double-figure digs in 15 matches. She leads the team with 13 double-doubles on the season.
