Badgers Honored at Football banquet

The 2002 Wisconsin football team gathered Friday evening at the program's annual awards banquet at the Marriott West Hotel.
The individual awards winners were as follows:
Scout Team Awards (Offense: Devin Hollins / Defense: Paul Joran)
Presented annually to the players who excelled on the scout team in preparing the Badgers for each week's game.
Rookie of the Year: Jonathan Orr
Presented annually to the most outstanding 'rookie' player on the team as selected by the coaching staff.
Special Teams Award: Jim Leonhard
Presented annually to the most valuable player on the special teams as selected by the coaching staff.
Ivan B. Williamson Scholastic Award: Jason Jowers
Presented annually to a player who has been exemplary in the area of scholarship and sportsmanship. The award is given in memory of Williamson, a former Wisconsin football coach (1949-55) and athletics director (1955-69).
Jay Seiler Coaches' Appreciation Award (Defense): Jake Sprague
Presented annually to the defensive football player who has contributed to the team's success to the best of his abilities. It is based upon improvement, attitude and willingness to help the program in all areas. The award is given in memory of Seiler, a former UW player.
Wayne Souza Coaches' Appreciation Award (Offense): Brooks Bollinger
Presented annually to the offensive football player who has contributed to the team's success to the best of his abilities. It is based upon improvement, attitude and willingness to help the program in all areas. The award is given in memory of Souza, a Wisconsin football letterwinner (1977-78).
Jimmy Demetral Most Valuable Player Award: Jim Leonhard
Presented annually to the player who was most instrumental to the success of the football team as selected by his teammates. The award is given in memory of Demetral, a former wrestling promoter who was interested in Badger sports and established team MVP awards for both football and basketball at the University of Wisconsin.
The Captains' Cup: Rev. Monsignor Michael Burke
Presented annually to an individual, other than a player or coach, who has shown tremendous dedication and unselfish commitment toward the betterment of the football program. The recipient is selected by the head coach and team captains.
