Byrd, Shields and Shaw Earn Big Ten Honors

The University of Wisconsin landed two players on the 2002 All-Big Ten team and one player on the Big Ten All-Freshman team. Senior Erin Byrd was a unanimous selection to the All-Big Ten team while junior Morgan Shields was also named to the team. Sheila Shaw was named to the freshman honor team.
Byrd, a 6-0 outside hitter, has been the Badgers go-to player this season. She leads the team with 4.38 kills per game and also has a team-best 335 digs (2.99/game). The Glen Ellyn, Ill., native ranks second on the team with 0.34 service aces per game. Byrd was named the Big Ten Player of the Week on Oct. 21 and was named to the all-tournament team in all four invitationals the Badgers played in this season.
Shields, a 5-11 setter, leads the Big Ten and ranks among the top four players in the nation with 13.89 assists per game. She was named the Big Ten Player of the Week on Sept. 9 and Nov. 18, and was also named the MVP of the InnTowner Invitational. The Watertown, Wis., native leads the Badgers with 0.54 service aces per game.
Shaw, a 6-1 middle blocker, has played in 25 matches, starting 16, this season. She ranks second on the team with 0.84 blocks per game and also adds 2.05 kills per game. The Muskego, Wis., native ranks third on the team with a .311 hitting percentage.
