How a Badger Fan will Enjoy the Alamo Bowl
December 28, 2002 | Football
On occasion, a fun chronicle of how a Wisconsin fan enjoys a Badger Game Day is sent to UWBADGERS.COM. This fan lives in Illinois, and submitted this account. As we enjoy Wisconsin vs. Colorado in the Alamo Bowl, it will be fun to think of Dennis and his crew enjoying the game as well.
Dennis of Illinois; sent to uwbadgers.com on Dec. 23, 2002:
First I live 40 miles east of chicago in Romeoville, ILL. I have season tickets to the football games and 'Game Day' starts on Friday. Not only do I wear red on Friday, but I have my wife and my 15 year-old son wear red to his high school. I also now have five other co-workers wearing red on Friday. Plus I have brought back close to 20 Badger jackets to people to wear.
For home games we get up at 3:45am and leave the house by 5am so we can be in Madison by 8am. We have breakfast at the McDonalds on Lake Street in Madison, and if the game is at 11am we start to walk down to the game at 9am so we can get in at 9:30 sharp. If the game is at 2:30 we still get to Madison at 8am and we walk around Madison and shop or walk by the lake or still shop.
Game day is the biggest day of the week for me. If the game is on the road then I have spent about $130.00 for two 3ftx5ft motion "W" flags and i mounted them on the front of my house. I hang them up in the morning until the game ends. I make everyone who is in the house wear red during the game. I have home and away authentic Badger jerseys, and for the home games I wear the red, and for the away I wear the white.
No matter how cold it is at the home games i still wear my jersey, and the away games I dress up in in my white top and red bottoms and sit in front of my 52" big screen and watch the game. If I'm at a home game and it's on TV back here, I will tape the game and watch it again before the next game.
I have one bedroom in my house that is my sports room and one bedroom that my wife calls the "W" room because it's all Badgers' stuff. In my sports room I have all of the NFL authentic helmets plus all of the Big Ten helmets also. So this is how i spend my game day and let's go red. Dennis
