The Wisconsin women's golf team is tied for fourth place after day one of the 16-team Hatter Spring Fling in Daytona Beach, Fla. Wisconsin is even with East Tennessee St. at 307, nine shots back of leaders Michigan and Florida Southern. Jana Peterkova of Florida Southern holds the individual lead after firing a 5-under-par 67 at the Indigo Lakes Country Club.
The Badgers are in the hunt thanks to a pair of solid rounds from junior Katie Connelly and sophomore Malinda Johnson. Each shot 2-over-par 74s to sit in a pack of players tied for third. Johnson was steady with matching 37s on the front and back, while Connelly made the turn at 2-over 38, but shot even on the back to climb the leader board.
Sophomore Emily Hendricks and senior Heidi Njoes each ran into some trouble on the front, with Hendricks carding a 42 and Njoes a 44. Hendricks regrouped with a 37 on the back to end her round with a 7-over-par 79 and finish tied for 32nd. Njoes was a shot better on the back, shooting an even-par 36 to finish with an 80 and move into a tie for 37th. Junior Carli Gregorin is tied for 44th after carding a 39-42'81.
