Former UW Runners Compete at World Championships

Three former University of Wisconsin athletes recently competed in the World Cross Country Championships in Dublin, Ireland.
Suzy Favor Hamilton was the highest United States finisher in the women's short-course race, covering the 4,228-meter course in 13 minutes, 47 seconds, good for fifth place. Edith Masai of Kenya won the race in 13:30. Favor Hamilton led the United States team to a sixth-place finish with 90 points. Ethiopia won the short-course team race with 32 points.
Kathy Butler finished 20th in the women's long-course race covering the 7,974-meter course in 28:12. Paula Radcliffe of Great Britain won the race in 26:55. Butler was the third finisher for Great Britain, aiding her team to a fifth-place finish with 69 points. Ethiopia won the women's long course race with 28 points.
Jared Cordes finished 40th in the men's short-course race. He covered the 4,228-meter course in 12:53. Kenenisa Bekele of Ethiopia won the race in 12:11. Cordes was the third U.S. finisher in the event, aiding his team to a fifth-place finish with 113 points. Kenya won the event with 20 points.
