Women's Golf Remains in 12th at Central Regional

Sophomore Malinda Johnson is tied for sixth place to lead the Wisconsin women's golf team to a 12th-place finish after round two of the NCAA Central Regional at the par-72 Forest Akers West Golf Course. The Badgers fought windy conditions to card a second-round 319 to sit alone in 12th with a 643.
Johnson, coming off a second-place finish at the Big Ten championship, carded three birdies en route to a 4-over 76 to climb into a tie for sixth place with Lindsay Knowlton of Ohio State at 153.
Junior Katie Connelly shot a second-round 82 and is tied for 30th with a 159. Sophomore Emily Hendricks and junior Carli Gregorin each moved up the leaderboard on Friday. Hendricks shot an 80 to move into a tie for 70th, while Gregorin carded an 81 to jump seven spots into a tie for 75th. Senior Heidi Njoes shot an 88 and is in 104th place at 178.
Ohio State posted a 310 to move into a tie with Kent State for the lead at 621. Purdue is in third with a 623, while Tulsa is a shot back at 624. Oklahoma and Oklahoma State are tied for fifth at 625.
Martina Gillen of Kent State, Melanie Hagewood of Baylor and Stacy Prammanasudh of Tulsa are tied for the individual lead at 148.
The final round of the Central Regional begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday. The top eight teams and the top two individuals advance to the NCAA Women's Golf Championship, May 21-24, hosted by the University of Washington.
