Women's Golf Falls Short of NCAA Berth

The Wisconsin women's golf team shot a final-round 305 Saturday at the NCAA Central Regional to finish 12th with a 948. The Badgers finished 16 shots behind Michigan State for the eighth and final spot in the NCAA Championship.
Sophomore Malinda Johnson, coming off a second-place finish at the Big Ten championship, shot a 1-over 73 Saturday to move up to fifth place, one shot away from one of the two individual berths in the NCAA Championship.
Junior Katie Connelly carded a final-round 75 to move into a tie for 27th at 234. Classmate Carli Gregorin came on strong with three final-round birdies to card a 77 and finish tied for 68th with a 243. Sophomore Emily Hendricks finished tied for 75th with an 85-80-80'245, while senior Heidi Njoes ended her collegiate career with a 90-88-81'259 to finish 98th.
Second-round leader Kent State shot a 312 to fall into ninth place and out of contention. Tulsa took advantage, jumping from fourth place to first with a final-round 290 to capture the Central Regional title. Ohio State and Texas tied for second at 918. Purdue, Oklahoma State, Michigan, Oklahoma and Michigan State also advanced to the NCAA Championship.
Stacy Prammanasudh of Tulsa took medalist honors with a 71-77-71 '219. Kent State's Martina Gillen and Baylor's Melanie Hagewood qualified for the NCAA Championship as individuals, finishing second and fourth, respectively.
