Badgers Clinch Second at First Day of Invite

Wisconsin women's golf team started their fall season off with a bang at the first day of the Mary Fossum Invitational in East Lansing, Mich. with a 36-hole total of 607. They finished a slim seven strokes behind Michigan State, who holds first place. The field consisted of 13 teams, including Big Ten competitors Iowa, Michigan State, Illinois and Michigan.
Leading the Badgers, Junior Malinda Johnson tied for fifth among the individuals with a 76-73'149, only three strokes over the low score for the day. Freshman Lindsay McMillan, shooting 73-78'151, proved her worth only three places behind Johnson, tied for eighth. Also in the top twenty were seniors Carli Gregorian (77-76 '153) in 15th and Katie Connelly (76-78'154) in 20th. Wisconsin was one of two teams to keep all four individual scores in the top 20.
The team will take a stab at Michigan State's lead tomorrow, teeing off for the final 18 holes at 8 AM at Forest Akers West Golf Course.
