Alvarez One Win Away From 100
November 18, 2003 | Football
Wisconsin football head coach Barry Alvarez is one win away from the 100th win of his career. With a win Alvarez will become just the 10th coach in Big Ten history to record 100 wins at one conference institution. Alvarez has a 99-65-4 mark in his fourteen seasons at Wisconsin.
Alvarez will go for the milestone victory this Saturday when the Badgers host the Iowa Hawkeyes at Camp Randall Stadium. Alvarez was an assistant coach at Iowa from 1979 to 1986. Before losing to the Iowa last season, the Badgers had won five straight over Hawkeyes.
Alvarez, the winningest coach in school history, won his first game as a head coach on Sept. 15, 1990 in the Badgers 24-7 victory over Ball State. Since then Alvarez has gone on to win at least a share of three Big Ten titles, seven bowl games and three Rose Bowls. In addition to his duties as head football coach, Alvarez will officially become Wisconsin's Athletic Director on April 1, 2004.
Saturday marks the Badgers final regular season game and Senior Day at Camp Randall. Under Alvarez, Wisconsin is 8-3-2 on Senior Day. The Badgers (7-4, 4-3) and Hawkeyes (8-3, 4-3) are scheduled to kickoff at 2:30 p.m. (CDT). The game will be televised on ABC.
