November 18, 2003 | Volleyball
The Wisconsin volleyball team dropped out of the top 25 in the USA Today/American Volleyball Coaches Association poll released Monday. Wisconsin is the top team to receive votes. It is the first time since Nov. 29, 1999, that the UW has not been ranked among the top 25 teams.
Defending NCAA champion USC (26-0) remains atop the coaches poll for the 13th straight week and continues to receive all 65 first place votes. The top five teams remain the same as the last two weeks with Hawai'i (27-1), Florida (28-1), Pepperdine (22-2) and Kansas State (25-3), respectively, completing the top five.
The Big Ten Conference has three teams in the top 25. Penn State (24-4) moves up one spot to 15th while Illinois (21-5) jumps up five spots to 20th. Minnesota (19-9) moves up one spot to 22nd. Wisconsin (18-9) and Michigan State (18-8) receive points.
With only four matches left in the Big Ten season, Wisconsin is currently tied for fourth place in the league at 10-6.
The Badgers wrap up the conference road season when they face ninth-place Ohio State (4-12) on Friday at 7 p.m. EST at St. John's Arena in Columbus, Ohio. On Saturday, Wisconsin travels to league-leading Penn State (13-3) for a 7 p.m. EST match in Rec Hall in University Park, Pa.
Penn State plays at Ohio State on Wednesday before both teams host Wisconsin.
