MacLeod Named USCHO.com Defensive Player of the Week
November 20, 2003 | Women's Hockey
Wisconsin defenseman Carla MacLeod made her first appearance for Team Canada at the Four Nations Cup last week, and in her first weekend back at school, she reminded everyone why she belonged there.
MacLeod, the USCHO.com Defensive Player of the Week, was the difference-maker in the No. 6 Badgers' 3-0 and 4-3 victories over upstart Minnesota State, then No. 10. Wisconsin outscored the Mavericks 5-1 last weekend when MacLeod was on the ice, and the only goal allowed came straight off a faceoff. The Wisconsin captain led a defense that limited Minnesota State to a season-low nine shots on goal in the shutout victory, including just one shot in each of the first and third periods.
MacLeod did more than just break up scoring chances ' she created them too. She assisted on three of four Badger goals in the second game. The Calgary native shares her team lead with seven assists.
In MacLeod's seven games this year, opponents have scored just three even strength goals with her on the ice.
