November 25, 2003 | Women's Hockey
The Western Collegiate Hockey Association named Nikki Burish, a sophomore forward on the Wisconsin women's hockey team, the league's Offensive Player of the Week for Nov. 24-30.
A native of Madison and graduate of Edgewood High School, Burish tallied two goals and two assists for a four-point performance in the Badgers' series sweep against St. Cloud last weekend. The weekly honor is Burish's first in her UW career and the team's fifth this season.
She scored her two goals, including the game-winning mark, to lead sixth-ranked Wisconsin to a 4-0 shutout against the Huskies Friday night at the Eagle 's Nest in Verona, Wis. Her two assists came Saturday night in the UW's 8-1 decision to sweep the series and improve to 11-3-0 overall and 7-3-0 in the WCHA.
Burish's performance against the Huskies improves her season totals to six goals and five assists for 11 points across 14 games. She is currently tied for first place in team scoring with fellow forwards and seniors Steph Millar (4-7=11) and Karen Rickard (6-5=11).
The Badgers are off this weekend, but return to WCHA-league play next weekend, Friday, Dec. 5 and Saturday, Dec. 6 with a road series at fourth-ranked Minnesota-Duluth. The puck drops for both games at 7:05 p.m. and full recaps will be available at uwbadgers.com.
