Badgers Hit the Mats at Michigan State Open

Wisconsin wrestlers Tom Clum, Ed Gutnik, Tyler Turner, Adam Turner and Ryan Flaherty each made it to the top eight of their respective weight classes in day one on Saturday 's MSU Open, hosted by Michigan State in East Lansing.
Tom Clum, a redshirt sophomore, defeated Landon Foy of Northern Illinois, 8-3 to make it into the 125-pound bracket while fellow sophomore Ed Gutnik defeated teammate Tony Turner in the 133-pound match to make it to day two.
Brothers Tyler and Adam Turner both won their first matches to start the day, including a pin for Adam against Brian Beck of Olivet College. At the 157-pound weight class, Tyler narrowly beat Michigan State's Arsen Aleksanyan 4-3.
184-pound redshirt sophomore Ryan Flaherty was defeated in his first match against top-ranked Ben Heizer, but then won three straight matches finishing 3-1 on the day
Also competing at 197, sophomore Lee Kraemer went 3-2, earning a pin against Conan Williams before losing 13-4 to Joe Yager of Central Michigan.
Wisconsin wraps-up the MSU Open tomorrow Sunday, Nov.9 at Michigan State's Jenison Field House.
Meanwhile at the UW-Stevens Point Open, the Badgers had six wrestlers place. In the Gold Division, Cole Wunnicke (149-pounds) and Collin Cudd (125) both placed first, while Chad Steldt finished second at 165-pounds. Competing in the silver division, frosh wrestlers Jake Donar (165-pounds) and Jared Massey (197) each earned first place, while Zack Menne (157) took second.
