Camp Randall Stadium Web Cam Shows Panorama of Madison

The UWBadgers.com Camp Randall Stadium Web cam is now operational. The Olympus C-4000 Ultra Zoom 4.1 Megapixel camera with 3x optical zoom sits high atop the stadium communications center commanding a magnificent view of the lakes and the City of Madison.
The Web cam was established to document the three-year renovation planned for Camp Randall Stadium. The cam will operate throughout the construction period and beyond its 2005 completion date.
The pan/tilt computer system and camera will provide a 180-degree panoramic view of Camp Randall and the Madison skyline. The camera will take eight photos every hour, and through a computer software program, 'stitch' them together to present one high resolution panoramic image that includes Lake Mendota, Lake Monona, the Capitol, and of course, Camp Randall Stadium. A second photographic view showing construction of the new athletic office building will also be archived.
Fans can follow the construction progress visually, or they can call up archived images in a slide show that will play the images at a rapid pace, much like a video. Images may also be saved on the desktop.
The system is designed and installed by Madison native Rusty Erdman who owns Erdman Video Systems located in Miami, Fla. A graduate of UW-Madison in electrical engineering, Rusty welcomed a chance to return to campus and install the system. He has systems in place worldwide, including a second camera in Madison overseeing the Overture Center arts project downtown.
Besides daytime recording, the camera will take photos every 15 minutes during UW's home football games with close-up photos of the north, east side, south end zone and parts of the west lower and upper deck visible. Some action on the field will also be recorded.
To view the enlarged high resolution photograph (4980 x 770 pixels), users should click on the thumbnail image and then leave the mouse stationary over the image for a couple seconds. Depending on individual computer settings, an icon may appear (Internet Explorer). Click on that icon to view the full image.
