Double The Badgers At This Weekend's Invitational
September 11, 2003 | Women's Golf
In a first for the Wisconsin golf programs, both the men's and women's golf teams will play host to the 2003 Badger Invitational this weekend at University Ridge.
This year's Invitational will feature nine men's and nine women's teams playing 54 holes over the three-day event. Action on the links begins Friday, Sept. 12, at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start, followed by 8 a.m. tee times on Saturday and an 8 a.m. shotgun start on Sunday.
The Wisconsin men, under first-year head coach Jim Schuman and assistant coach B.J. Endicott, return eight golfers from last year's squad that finished first at the Diablo Grande Intercollegiate.
Brian Brodell, a UW junior, won the 2003 Wisconsin State Amateur title this summer and will look to better his 2002 Badger Invitational performance as the UW's highest individual finisher (T-14th) with career low scores of 18, 36 and 54 holes with a 69-71-75'215.
Under the leadership of first-year head coach Todd Oehrlein and returning assistant coach Lori Murphy, the Wisconsin women return nine players from last year's roster, including Malinda Johnson, Lindsay McMillan and Jackie Obermueller from Wisconsin 's NCAA team.
The Badger women earned their first-ever team trip to the 2003 NCAA Championships and finished 24th overall. Johnson, a senior, finished 55th overall (79-76-75-80'310) at the national tournament to pace her teammates.
This year's Badger Invitational results will be reported live on golfstat.com and daily scoring summaries will also be available at UWBADGERS.COM. Admission is free at University Ridge for this event.
