Badger Golfers Compete at Mary Fossum Invitational

The Wisconsin lady golfers shot a first round 320 and improved that score by 14 strokes in the afternoon to finish with a 626 total in a tie for ninth after 36 holes of the 16-team Mary Fossum Invitational. Host Michigan State blew away the competition at the Forest Akers West Golf Course, shooting rounds of 299-302--601. Only four strokes ahead of the Badgers were Indiana and Arkansas in second place with 622 totals. Wisconsin is tied with Illinois and Illinois State for seventh place.
Senior Malinda Johnson once again led the Badgers. After a first round 80, she improved by eight strokes in the second 18 holes with 72. Her 152 total placed in a tie for ninth individually.
A trio of Badgers came next with sophomores Lindsay McMillan (82-76), Jackie Obermueller (81-77) and freshman Nikki Morse (77-81) all tying for 33rd with scores of 158. The fifth Badger competing was Taryn Rechlicz with 88-83--171.
