Badgers Blank UW-Milwaukee, 2-0
October 21, 2004 | Women's Soccer
Forward Marla Froelich (Iowa City, Iowa) tallied the first goal, and midfielder/forward Marisa Brown (Evanston, Ill.) scored for the second straight match, as the University of Wisconsin women's soccer team topped UW-Milwaukee 2-0 Thursday afternoon.
The triumph not only extended the Badgers' (12-4-1) winning streak to four, but it also ended the Panthers' (8-7-2) eight-match undefeated streak (7-0-1).
'We were very aggressive and had a lot of chances to score, although we just didn't capitalize,' head coach Dean Duerst said. 'The atmosphere was intense, and I'm happy how we hung in there. '
UW's offense had a hand in freshman goalkeeper Lynn Murray 's (Marietta, Ga.) fourth career solo shutout, as it dominated UW-Milwaukee in shots, 17-8. Wisconsin also held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Neither goal for UW, however, came from a set play. In Froelich 's case, she outraced the UW-Milwaukee defenders and beat the goalkeeper with a shot that bounced off the post and put her team ahead 1-0 at the half.
At the 89th minute, junior midfielder/forward Katy Lindenmuth (Geneva, Ill.) managed to slip the ball to Brown, who was about 10 yards out for the score.
The Badgers return home to take on UW-Green Bay at 1 p.m. Sunday at McClimon Soccer Complex.
