Wisconsin Closes Out Regular Season This Week

The University of Wisconsin women's soccer team will look to keep its winning streak intact in its final regular season matches when it goes head-to-head with Marquette at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Milwaukee and Northern Illinois at 1 p.m. Saturday at McClimon Soccer Complex.
With a 2-0 win over UW-Milwaukee and a 5-1 win over UW-Green Bay last weekend, the Badgers (13-4-1) have been triumphant in five consecutive matches. They are close to matching their six-match winning streak from the beginning of the season.
Junior midfielder/forward Katy Lindenmuth (Geneva, Ill.), this week 's Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, had a particularly good performance on Sunday, scoring two goals in UW's rout of the Phoenix. Junior midfielder/forward Amy Vermeulen (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) added two assists as the team racked up 16 points in the game.
Vermeulen and Lindenmuth are Nos. 1 and 2, respectively, in terms of scoring for the team.
Instead of juniors, the Golden Eagles (10-6-1) have a pair of sophomores leading them'Meghan Connelly and Alison Loughrin, both of whom have five goals apiece, although the former also has six assists.
Connelly and Loughrin were both held scoreless this past weekend as Marquette tallied two shutouts. Teammate Heather Goranson, however, stepped up by notching game-winning goals in both matches. She is second on the team with 14 points (four goals, six assists).
"Marquette has a great defense," head coach Dean Duerst said. "Our recent combination play has been solid, and that is what you need to pick apart a strong defense."
Saturday also will mark the Huskies' (6-6-5) final regular-season contest. The team will be looking to bounce back from three straight losses, including a 2-0 decision to Toledo on Sunday.
Christie Ehrhardt heads her squad with 11 points (three goals, five assists). Against Akron on Oct. 15, she tallied a goal and an assist; otherwise, she has not scored since.
"You always want to win your last home match," Duerst said, noting that Saturday is Senior Day. "We know that we can't overlook anybody."
Wisconsin defeated NIU 3-1 last year to improve to 6-0 all-time against the Huskies.
