Wisconsin Blanks Minnesota State, 4-0

The fourth-ranked Wisconsin women's hockey team knocked down Minnesota State, 4-0 at the All Seasons Arena in Mankato, Minn., Friday night. The win preserved Wisconsin 's now 21-game unbeaten streak vs. the Mavericks and improved the team's season record to 12-4-1. The Badgers are now 8-4-1 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association play while the Mavericks dropped to 3-7-5 in the conference and 3-9-3 overall.
Wisconsin dominated the first period with 14 shots on goal while MSU managed just 10 total shots. Despite several scoring chances, the Badgers could not finish their opportunities and the teams waited out the first intermission scoreless.
Wisconsin is now 3-1-0 when neither team scores in the first period. The Badgers have gone on to outscore their opponents 13-3 in the remaining periods of those games.
Scoring just 50 seconds into the second period, Molly Engstrom fired a shot into the net with help from Jackie Friesen and Nikki Burish. Both teams' defense stepped up allowing just nine Wisconsin shots on goal and three Maverick attempts.
In the third, the Badgers sealed the victory scoring three goals. First, sophomore Meaghan Mikkelson lined up a shot and lit the lamp at 3:58. Later, at 9:32, newcomer Jinelle Zaugg notched an unassisted goal to put the Badgers up 3-0. Lindsay Macy added Wisconsin's fourth goal on the power play at 18:45 to close the game.
In her ninth start this season, Meghan Horras collected 11 saves and her third shutout of the season. For the Mavericks, sophomore Laura Brennan marked 29 stops and allowed four goals in her fourth loss of the season.
Looking for the sweep and to remain unbeaten vs. the Mavericks, the Badgers will return to the All Seasons Arena Saturday at 3:05 p.m.
