Badgers' Wednesday a Day at the Beach
December 30, 2004 | Football
In the morning it was work and then in the afternoon it was time for play for the Wisconsin football team Wednesday as it continues preparations for Saturday's Outback Bowl game against Georgia.
The Badgers opened the day with their fourth practice at the University of Tampa. The squad competed in helmets and shoulder pads in what was its shortest practice session in Tampa thus far.
A beautiful sunny day proved to be the perfect conditions for the team as it make the trek to Clearwater, Fla., in the afternoon for some fun and relaxation at the Outback Bowl Beach Day along with Georgia.
The afternoon at the beach opened with performances by the Wisconsin Varsity Band and cheer and dance teams which put on a show for all of the Badger fans in attendance. Later on, UW head coach Barry Alvarez and Georgia head coach Mark Richt were each presented a key to the city of Clearwater.
If Wednesday's competitions on the beach are any indication of how the game will turn out Saturday, Wisconsin is in good shape. The UW men's, women's and coed cheer teams each defeated their Georgia counterparts in the tug-of-war battles. A Badger fan also out-ate his Bulldog opponent in a key lime pie eating contest.
Wisconsin players enjoyed their time at the beach by building sand castles, lying under the sun, jumping in the water among a number of other activities.
UW will wrap up its practice sessions at the University of Tampa Thursday morning.
