April 18, 2004 | Women's Golf
The Wisconsin women's golfers battled extremely windy conditions at the Boilermaker Invitational Sunday, carding a 345 in the third round to finish in 10th place. Senior Malinda Johnson led the team in a tie for 12th individually.
The team's three round total of 976 (310-321-345) left them one stroke behind Illinois in ninth place. Michigan State led the 12 team field with rounds of 299-303-316=918. The Spartans were followed by Indiana, Northwestern, Purdue and Iowa in the top five.
Johnson's scores of 73-78-81=232 were not the only ones reflecting the challenging conditions the field faced in the final round. Freshman Nicki Morse was the next lowest with an 87 on Sunday for a total 245 in a tie for 35th. Tying for 44th, Sami Forster turned in a 54-hole score of 249 with rounds of 78-83-88. Jackie Obermueller contributed the fourth lowest score with an 89 in the third round. She finished in a tie for 49th with 77-85-89=251.
Lindsay McMillan, placing 62nd with 82-84-93=259, and Jill Ries, tying for 64th with 91-84-90=265, also competed for Wisconsin.
The Boilermaker was the Badgers final preparation before heading to the Big Ten Championship, hosted by Ohio State, next weekend, April 23-25.
