The accolades keep coming for Wisconsin's senior standout golfer, Malinda Johnson. The Eau Claire, Wis. native became the program's first National Golf Coaches Association Honorable Mention All-American. The Division I All-American team is comprised of the top 40 players in the NCAA (first and second teams and honorable mention) and is voted on by the coaches in the NGCA.
Johnson, who earned first team All-Big Ten honors, just missed a trip to her second NCAA Championship by one spot tying for 10th at the NCAA Central Regional with 79-77-71=227. She finished third among individuals not advancing with a team, but the tournament only takes the top two. She is one of only two UW golfers to play in all four NCAA regionals during her tenure.
Johnson will leave UW as one of the best golfers in program history as she set a new UW career stroke average record of 76.19, beating the former low by 1.29 strokes. She also broke her own season average record of 75.94 (2002-03) with this season's average of 74.33 strokes per round.
The MPV of the team this season, Johnson owns the school records for 18 holes (66), and tied the mark for 72 holes with a 296.
