July 22, 2004 | Men's Golf
UW men's head golf coach Jim Schuman completed the opening round of play at the PGA Tour's U.S. Bank Championship Thursday by shooting a 6-over par 76.
Schuman opened his round by shooting 2-over through the first nine holes after bogeying holes 1 and 8. He got his back nine off to a rough start, double-bogeying hole 10.
Schuman posted another bogey on the par 4 12th hole, before recovering to post his only birdie of the day by recording a two on the par 3 14th. Back-to-back bogies on holes on holes 16 and 17 contributed to his posting a 40 on the back nine.
Schuman had qualified for the U.S. Bank Championship, formerly the Greater Milwaukee Open, by winning one of the three spots at a Wisconsin PGA qualifier with a 3-under 68 on the same Brown Deer Golf Course last Saturday.
He will have his work cut out for him in trying to earn his first cut at the U.S. Bank Championship, as eight players are currently tied for first place at 5-under par.
Second round action continues Friday at Brown Deer Golf Course.
