Wisconsin Women's Golf held onto its grip of tenth-place at the Lady Northern Invitational. The Badgers 942-stroke (319-305-318) effort earned a spot among the top ten ahead of conference foes 11th-place Penn State (310-316-320=946) and 12th-place Minnesota (310-316-324=942).
Sophomore Nicki Morse was Wisconsin's top finisher in a 40th-place tie (78-76-80=234) with Illinois' Lyndsey Milligan (81-77-76). Morse 's 54-hole effort exceeded her previous career low by four strokes, 238 at the 2003 Legends Shootout. Her 40th-place tie also a career-best finish for a 54-hole tournament, Morse finished seventh at the rain-shortened 36-hole Badger Invitational (77-75-152)
Newcomer Katie Elliot continued her ascent up the rankings. In 80th-place after 18 holes, Elliot steadily climbed through the standings to a three-golfer 44th-place tie (84-73-79= 236). After a 12-over par first round, the Madison native battled to shoot nine-over par for the proceeding 36 holes.
Melissa Martin matched Elliot's performance in a more consistent manner as the duo remained tied throughout the tournament's final 36 holes. Martin posted rounds of 79, 78 and 79 to stay tied with her teammate and two others in 44th. Martin improved her previous 54-hole best of 241 by five strokes at the 2003 Legends Shootout in Franklin, Ind.
Mayumi Kobayashi finished the final round of her collegiate debut with a 12-over par 84. The Santa Monica, Calif. native shot a solid 80-78-84 to finish tied for 61st with three other players at 242. Junior Lindsay McMillan tied two other players for 65th at 243 (82-81-80). Danielle Hoff rounded out the Badger effort (82-84-87=253) with an 83rd-place finish. Hoff's initial round matched collegiate personal-best round of 82. Hoff also shot an 82 at the 2003 Lady Boilermaker Invitational as well as the third-round of the Big Ten Championships.
