Badgers Drop Drake, 2-1

Brothers Jed and Aaron Hohlbein each scored for the Wisconsin men's soccer team in its victory over Drake, 2-1 at Cownie Soccer Field on Sunday afternoon. The Badgers improve their record to 3-3-0 after the win while Bulldogs drop to 3-3-0 with the loss.
'Our guys bounced back well from a tough, disappointing loss against Creighton,' said head coach Jeff Rohrman. 'We showed a lot of character and resilience against a good Drake team.'
After a scoreless first half, senior forward Jed Hohlbein found the back of the net early in the second, off of an assist from Noah Goerlitz at 56:06. Minutes later at 57:26, Drake answered back as Ryan Samuelson scored off a double assist from teammates Jess Richey and Matt Nickell.
Wisconsin would not settle for a tie. Sophomore defender Aaron Hohlbein stepped up on a direct kick and after a scramble in the box, put the ball away at 73:41, assisted by freshman Erik Ortega. Hohlbein also helped anchor the defense which managed to hold onto the win, despite late scoring opportunities by Drake.
Goalkeeper Eric Hanson made a crucial save with minutes to go as Drake attempted to battle back from the one-goal deficit. He also had five other saves on the day. Along with Hanson, Rohrman commended Goerlitz for a solid game in the midfield.
Up next, the Badgers come home to Madison and host IUPUI at McClimon Soccer Complex, Friday Sept. 24 at 7:00 p.m. IUPUI (5-0-0) is currently ranked No. 7 in the region. Jaguar forward Vangel Nacovski has an impressive nine goals in the first five games. The Badger defense must find a way to shut him down on Friday night to grab their fourth victory of the season.
