Wisconsin Claims Fourth at Mary Fossum Invitational

A total team score of 928 (305-308-315) gave Badger Women's Golf a fourth-place finish at the Mary Fossum Invitational Sunday in East Lansing, Mich. Two in-state teams, Michigan and Michigan State topped the team leader board. Host Michigan placed second with 925 while Michigan's total of 919 won the tournament title.
Lindsay McMillan was the UW's highest finisher. McMillan shot her second consecutive 77 during the final round to tie three others at 230 (76-77-77). McMillan earned her career-best tournament finish with a sixth-place tie. Her previous career-best finish was a 19th-place effort at last spring's Tapatio Springs Invitational.
Nicki Morse completed the meet two strokes behind McMillan in 15th-place (78-75-79= 232). Katie Elliot and Melissa Martin joined Morse in the top 25. Elliot followed Morse two strokes back in a 16th-place tie (76-80-77=233) while Melissa Martin tied for 24th (75-78-82=235). Martin's 24th-place finish was her career 's top career finish, improving 20 spots on her 44th-place finish at last weekend 's Lady Northern. Mayumi Kobayashi finished the tournament in a 65th-place tie with steadily improving scores (88-78-83=249). Samantha Forster competed as an individual and managed a 72nd-place finish (76-83-92=251).
The Badgers travel to Franklin, Ind. for the fall season's next tournament. The Legends Shootout on Oct. 4-5 will take place on the Legends of Indiana Golf Course.
