The Badger Men's Golf team won its second consecutive tournament on Sunday at Verona's University Ridge. The Badgers 54-hole team score of 862 (289-276-297) earned the second victory of the fall season by six strokes over the nearest competition, Penn State (285-289-294=868). The team's pair of victories during the fall is the UW's first since Sept. 9-10 and Oct. 9-10, 2000.
The five Badger golfers managed to hold off Penn State and Illinois during the final round despite shooting their highest round of the tournament. Garret Jones led the Badger effort with a 54-hole total of 254 (71-69-74). Jones finished in a fourth-place tie with Penn State's Ted Neville and Greg Pieczynski to pace the Badgers for the second time this fall. Garrett Chaussard from Illinois was the tournament 's medalist with a five-under par 211.
Sophomore Adam DeLawyer built on his first-round 68 to finish in a three-way tie for ninth-place at 216 with Marquette's Kyle Murphy and Drake 's Jeff Berkshire. DeLawyer's first round tied for the meet's lowest 18-hole individual effort.
Jeff Kaiser climbed the standings on the final day. Kaiser started in a 35th-place tie but thanks to windy conditions during a final-round 71, managed a 20th-place tie with six others including teammate Brian Brodell (72-69-80) at five-over par (221). Kevin Tassistro finished the meet two strokes behind in a 30th-place tie (78-68-77=223).
Playing as individuals, Ryan Conn finished tied for 27th (74-70-78=222) while Adam Steinhofer played three solid rounds in his home debut for a 33rd-place tie (73-73-78=224).
The Badgers' next meet is Sept. 25-26 in Iowa City at the Hawkeye Invitational. The action will take place on the University of Iowa's Finkbine Golf Course.
