The Wisconsin Badgers finished one-stroke shy of Drake University for third-place at the Hawkeye Intercollegiate on Sunday at Iowa City's Finkbine Golf Course (297-300-293=890). Wisconsin gained one spot on the final day thanks to the team's lowest round of the tournament. Host school Iowa came from a third-place tie with Northern Illinois to win the tournament title (296-289-286=871). Iowa's final round 286 was two strokes better than any other team round posted during the entire meet.
In just his third meet as a Badger, freshman Jeff Kaiser continued his impressive play with a final round two-under par 70. Thanks to two consecutive 70s, Kaiser moved from a fifth-place tie into the runner-up position. Kaiser (73-70-70=213) tied Drake's Jeff Berkshire and Western Illinois' Nick Kwaterski. SW Missouri State's Austin Hackett shot 70 or below for all three rounds to win the tournament medal by four strokes (70-69-70=209).
Senior Brian Brodell notched a top-ten finish (71-77-71=219). Brodell's tie with Iowa's Todd Larson set a new career-high finish, previously a tenth-place finish at the 2003 Northern Intercollegiate.
Garret Jones completed competition in a 28th-place tie at 229 (77-74-78) while Ryan Conn finished one stroke back wtih 230 (76-80-74). Adam DeLawyer shot two solid rounds to begin the meet and finished out the Badger effort with a 45th-place tie (77-79-82=238).
