UW in Ninth after Day One

Playing in her first round as a Badger, Isabel Alvarez led the Wisconsin women 's golf team with a 3-over par 75 in the first round of the Tyson/Embassy Suites Invitational Sunday in Rogers, Ark.
UW sits in ninth place at 19-over 307, one shot behind eighth-place Kansas State and three strokes behind a two-way tie for sixth place.
Alvarez, a freshman from Gijon, Spain, is tied for 15th place, one shot better than teammate Katie Elliott (Madison, Wis.). Elliott, a sophomore, is tied for 23rd place at 76.
Senior Lindsay McMillan (Calgary, Alberta) shot a 77 in the opening round and is tied for 30th place.
Jeana Dahl (Fargo, N.D.) is tied for 51st place after posting a 79. The freshman came into the tournament with the team's best scoring average at 77.2 strokes.
Senior Jackie Obermueller finished the day in 85th place with an 85.
Arkansas, the host school, leads the tournament at 3-over par 291. Amanda Costner from Kansas sits atop the individual leaderboard at 2-under 70.
Play resumes at 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Tyson/Embassy Suites Invitational. The 16 teams will play 18 holes on Monday before closing the 54-hole event with 18 more on Tuesday. Live stats for the event can be found at golfstat.com.
