Bauer Earns Player of the Week Honors
November 01, 2005 | Women's Hockey
The Western Collegiate Hockey Association announced Sara Bauer as the offensive conference player of the week, Monday. This is the first weekly honor of the season for Bauer, but her second offensive honor and fourth conference player of the week nod, with two honors as rookie of the week during the 2003-04 season.
Bauer, a native of St. Catharines, Ontario, helped lead the Badgers to a two-game sweep of North Dakota. The junior assisted on the game-winning power play goal in the 3-2 win Oct. 28. She followed up with a solid three-point performance Oct. 29. The 8-0 Badger shutout was highlighted by Bauer's short-handed game-winning tally to start the game. The goal marked her 100th point at Wisconsin. She joins just four other Badgers to have reached the mark.
She went on the score another goal and mark an assist in the game. Bauer currently leads the team in points with 14 through seven games. She is also on track to become Wisconsin's all-time leading scorer. With 102 points she needs 76 points in the next two seasons to eclipse Meghan Hunter's 177-point mark.
The four-point series extended her point streak to 16 games dating back to Feb. 12, 2005.
Bauer and the Badgers (6-1-0, 4-1-0 WCHA) will host St. Cloud State (2-4-0, 2-4-0 WCHA) for a series at the Kohl Center, Nov. 4-5. The games are set to begin at 7:07 p.m. Friday and 12:07 p.m. Saturday. This will be the last home series for the Badgers in 2005. The team will embark on a two-month road trip and will be back on its home ice Jan. 20, 2006.
