Capital One Bowl Diary: Day 1
December 26, 2005 | Football
Each day uwbadgers.com will recap the events of the day for the University of Wisconsin football team, which is playing Auburn in the Capital One Bowl on Jan 2. Today, read all about the first day of the nine-day trip:
On Christmas Day, the team met at Camp Randall Stadium for a light meal and a meeting before heading to the airport for a 2 p.m. flight. The travel time was about 2.5 hours, and the team was entertained with the movie 'Cinderella Man ' on the plane.
The distance from the airport to the Peabody Hotel is 11 miles, mostly of highway travel. The Badgers certainly felt like royalty with a large police escort; all five buses and the equipment truck got to drive on the highway by themselves, as the police blocked all the on-ramps and intersections.
After checking into the hotel, which is situated across from the convention center, the team met briefly before sitting down to a Christmas dinner. All the children in attendance got to sit on Santa's lap and receive a gift.
Following dinner, it was free time for all.
