Capital One Bowl Diary: Day 6
December 31, 2005 | Football
Each day uwbadgers.com will describe the events of the day for the University of Wisconsin football team, which is playing Auburn in the Capital One Bowl on Jan 2. Today, read all about the sixth day of the nine-day trip:
Some members of the bowl party started the day by going to the Capital One Bowl parade, located in downtown Orlando. There, they sat in the grandstands and watched a nearly two-hour parade. Due to the television filming, which immensely slowed the parade, the fans were treated to an extra-long performance by the UW marching band when it came by.
Back to the football players: after having Thursday off, the team returned to practice on Friday. It marked the last day of media availability; as in, no more interviews for the players until after the bowl game!
The fun activity du jour was a trip to Disney World. Most of the players chose to go to Magic Kingdom, although a few went to Epcot (there's also MGM and Animal Kingdom).
Head coach Barry Alvarez was given a block of cheese carved into the shape of a Motion W as a birthday gift when he arrived. His grandchildren also got to take pictures with Goofy and Minnie Mouse.
A large media contigency came to watch QB John Stocco, WR Jonathan Orr, OL Jason Palermo and DBs Allen Langford, James Kamoku and Aubrey Pleasant ride the tea cups at Magic Kingdom. Stocco, who apparently has a strong stomach, filmed the entire ride from a first-person perspective with his video camera.
Afterward, the six Badgers did some interviews in addition to being mobbed by fans hoping for photo ops and autographs (Pleasant was the biggest star of the day!).
For those who came back on the early bus, which left at 4 p.m., it was back to the pool for some more fun in the sun. Former UW punter Kevin Stemke was spotted poolside, and in fact, he had a conversation with kicker Taylor Mehlhaff.
