Three Badgers Named SI.com Second-Team All-America
December 07, 2005 | Football
SI.com named recently University of Wisconsin running back Brian Calhoun, offensive lineman Joe Thomas and punter Ken DeBauche to its All-America second team.
Calhoun rushed for a school-record tying 21 touchdowns this year and became the second player in Big Ten history to amass at least 1,000 rushing yards and 500 receiving yards in one season. The junior was recently named UW's MVP.
Thomas, a Sports Illustrated mid-season All-American, was an integral part of the offensive line that paved the way for Calhoun's 1,423 yards of rushing this season. For Thomas' stellar play, he was named a Rotary Lombardi award semifinalist.
With a 44.8 yards per punt average, DeBauche is ranked seventh nationally and tops in the Big Ten in punting. Seventeen of his 54 punts went for at least 50 yards, and 21 punts were downed inside the opponent's 20-yard line.
All three players also were consensus first-team All-Big Ten picks.
The Badgers will face Auburn in the Capital One Bowl on Jan. 2 in Orlando, Fla.
