Women's Golf Manages Fifth-Place in Rainy Conditions

The Badgers' 324-stroke effort gives them a fifth-place after the first day of the Indiana Invitational in which only one round was played due to wet course conditions at Indiana University's Public Course.
Wisconsin is the Big Ten's top finisher of the day, one stroke ahead of the Marshall and Xavier but only two strokes out of third place. Notre Dame ran away with the tournament lead after the first 18 holes, leading Grand Valley State by five strokes at 24 over-par (312).
Three Badgers placed in the top ten while a pair of upperclassmen finished the first round among tied for eighth as Lindsay McMillan and Nicki Morse shot an eight over-par 80 to tie three others in eighth-place.
Senior Jackie Obermueller registered the UW's third-highest finish of the first day and finished one stroke behind with a nine over-par 81 round to tie for 22nd-place with six other golfers.
Jill Ries completed her day with an 11 over-par round of 83 to tie eight others for 37th-place. Katie Elliott finished two strokes behind with a 58th-place effort with a round of 85 to wrap up the Wisconsin effort on the wet terrain.
Danielle Hoff competed as an unattached individual, shooting a 93 to tie for 102nd.
The Indiana Invitational will be completed with the second half of action beginning Sunday morning at 8 a.m. on the public course of Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind.
