Wisconsin Finishes First Half of Big Ten Championships

Through 36 holes at the 2005 Big Ten Championships in extremely cold and rainy conditions in Ann Arbor, Mich., the Wisconsin women's golf team is led by junior Lindsay McMillan. McMillan shot an opening-day 158 to end tied for 27th (80-78).
The Badgers' top four scores totaled 650 (323-327), earning 10th-place heading into the final two days of competition.
Ohio State University registered the tournament's only two sub-300 team rounds, with a 593-stroke effort (297-296). The Buckeyes dominated the top three positions on the leader board with Lindsay Knowlton (75-73) and Jennifer Selfinger (73-75) tied for second at 148.
Katie Elliot tied McMillan for the team's lowest round with a first-round 78 followed by an 85 (163) for sole possession of 43rd. Jill Ries carded a 165 (81-84) to earn a 48th-place tie. Melissa Martin finished the Wisconsin scoring effort while improving her score by seven strokes during the second round to finish 51st (87-80=167).
Nicki Morse and Jackie Obermueller finished back-to-back in the standings in 62nd and 63rd 'place, respectively. Morse needed 174 strokes (86-88) strokes to complete the first 36 holes while Obermueller carded a 178 (85-93).
Action is scheduled to continue with 18 holes on both Saturday (8 a.m. CT) and Sunday (7 a.m. CT) mornings. However, snow is expected in Ann Arbor so play may begin early in an attempt to complete one round.
