April 23, 2005 | Women's Golf
Despite registering its highest score of the tournament, the Badgers moved up three spots during Saturday's round in snowy conditions at the Big Ten Women's Golf Championships. The harsh conditions forced high scores as only twelve players managed sub-80 scores.
The Badgers' 979 (324-327-328) gives them eighth-place heading into the meet's final round, 14 strokes behind Minnesota. Ohio State continued to dominate the field despite scoring its first plus-300 round. Its 54-hole total of 900 leads second-place Michigan by 32 strokes. The Buckeye's Kristen Brown holds a three-stroke advantage for the individual medal with a 222 stroke effort through the first rounds (73-73-76).
Junior Lindsay McMillan carded a third-round 83 while managing to enter the top-25 on the individual leader board, tying two other golfers at 241 strokes (80-78-83).
One of the twelve individuals to shoot lower than 80 was freshman Katie Elliott. Elliott's third round 79 was the team's lowest round of the day and helped her improve to 28th in the individual standings. Her 241-stroke total (78-85-79) is only one stroke off McMillan's team-leading 54-hole pace.
Jill Ries and Melissa Martin and completed the Wisconsin scoring effort for the day. Ries shot an 86 (81-84-86=251) to manage a 47th-place tie with two others while Martin finished the day one stroke back in sole possession of 50th (87-80-85=252).
Jackie Obermueller shot her lowest round of the tournament, an 81 to help her move into a 57th-place tie (85-93-81=259). Nicki Morse ended the day in 63rd with a 263-stroke total (86-88-89=263).
Due to inclement weather in Ann Arbor, the status of the final round is subject to change. An 8:30 a.m. CT shotgun start is scheduled for tomorrow morning. If bad weather persists, action will be delayed until 10 a.m. CT when the tournament would be called.
