Badger Women Golfers to Promote Golf Wisconsin
May 12, 2005 | Women's Golf
The Badger women's golf team, in cooperation with the Wisconsin Department of Tourism, will be the host team for this summer's `Golf Wisconsin' program.
The department is promoting the great golf available in the State of Wisconsin, and wants to emphasize that more women and young girls should feel welcome and take advantage of golf at the state's nearly 500 public courses.
"I'm pleased that the Badger women's golf team is going to be part of our effort this year," Governor Doyle said. "By sharing their great talent, they will help us introduce more women and young girls to the game."
To kick off this year's campaign, May 22 has been designated as `Golf Wisconsin Day'. A pre- promotional event featuring Governor Doyle, two UW women golfers and a variety of Milwaukee TV sportscasters and writers will be held at the Brown Deer Golf Course on Wed., May 18th at 10:00 a.m.
UW's Nicki Morse of Oconomowoc, Wis., and Jill Ries of Middleton, Wis., will be participating in the golf exhibition/photo shoot with the Governor to promote the Golf Wisconsin day. The governor and the sportcasters/writers will play a two-hole "mini-scramble" against the UW golfers.
Wisconsin women's golf coach Todd Oehrlein, a native of Sun Prairie, Wis., and life-long golfer of the state's courses said, "We are extremely excited to be teaming with Governor Doyle and the Department of Tourism to promote golf in Wisconsin. It is an incredible opportunity for our golf program. I hope everyone is able to take advantage of the tremendous golf facilities we have throughout Wisconsin."
People interested in participating in Golf Wisconsin Day May 22nd should logon to travelwisconsin.com/golf for a complete listing of all the courses participating.
