UW Women's Golf Awards Announced

The Badger women's golf team held its annual awards banquet Tuesday with junior Lindsay McMillan named the Player of the Year. A native of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, McMillan led the Badgers with a 78.8 scoring average in all 32 rounds. A pre-medicine major with above a 3.5 cumulative gpa, McMillan also earned her second Academic All-Big Ten Award this season, and earned the team's community service award.
Freshman Katie Elliott of Madison was the newcomer of the Year. The Edgewood High School graduate averaged 79.4 strokes per round as a regular member of the travel squad and played all 32 rounds.
Senior Jackie Obermueller of River Falls, Wis., was recognized for the best putting average in putts per green in regulation. She also received the Most Improved Award - recognizing the largest improvement in scoring average from the previous season. She and McMillan also shared the Badger Leadership Award as voted on by the team, and Obermueller was also recognized as an Academic All-Big Ten honoree.
Sophomore Nicki Morse (Oconomowoc, Wis.) was voted by team members as the Badger Power Award honoree for excellence and leadership in UW's strength and conditioning program. Sophomore Jill Ries of Middleton, Wis., was the team's Big Ten Sportsmanship Honoree.
Senior Sami Forster (Appleton, Wis.), senior Jackie Potter (Granger, Wis., and Melissa Martin received recognition with Academic Improvement Awards.
