Badger Women FInish Sixth at Badger Invitational

The Badgers improved from eighth to sixth in the final round of the 12-team Badger Invitational held at University Ridge Golf Course in Verona, Wis. Purdue University won the 54-hole tournament by 15 strokes over Texas A & M with shooting a 293-289-297--879.
The Boilermakers also claimed the medalist as Onnarin Sattayabanphot led every round and was the only golfer to record a sub-par finish with a one-under 71-69-75--215 to win be a stroke over A & M's Ashley Knoll.
UW recorded a 319-301-304=924 to improve in its first competition of the year. Junior Jill Ries (Middleton, Wis.) led the Badgers with a tie for 20th with 89-71-77--228. Freshman Jeana Dahl (Fargo, N.D.) had the low round of the day with a career-best one-under par 71 to tie for 29th individually with teammate Jackie Obermueller (River Falls, Wis.). Both had 232 for 54 holes.
Senior Lindsay McMillan (Calgary, Alberta) tied for 42nd with a 236, and Nicki Morse (Oconomowoc, Wis.) tied for 55th with a 241.
Several Badgers played as individuals led by sophomore Katie Elliott (Madison, Wis.) who placed 10th individually with a consistent 77-73-75--225 in the windy conditions. Two others, Carissa Werlinger (Naperville, Ill.)and Melissa Martin (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) had top-30 finishes in the field of 68. Werlinger tied for 24th with a 229, and Martin tied her teammates at 29th with a 232. The players playing as individuals cannot count in the team score.
