Badgers Ranked First in Preseason Poll

The Wisconsin men's cross country team is ranked No. 1 in the Preseason MONDO NCAA Division I Men's Cross Country Poll, announced on Tuesday. The Badgers finished second at the 2004 NCAA Championships and have won six straight Big Ten team titles.
Following UW in the poll is 2004 NCAA Champion Colorado, Arkansas, BYU and Stanford. Rounding out the top 10 are Iona, Notre Dame, Cal Poly Luis Obispo, Texas and Arizona. Besides Wisconsin, the highest ranked Big Ten team is Ohio State at No. 13. Iowa (16th), Indiana (17th), Minnesota (25th), Michigan (27th) and Michigan State (T30th) are also ranked.
The Badgers' next race is on Sept. 24 at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis. Last year Wisconsin won the Griak with Matt Tegenkamp, Simon Bairu and Chris Solinsky sweeping the top three spots.
