Wisconsin 10th at Mary Fossum Invite

The Wisconsin women's golf team is in 10th place after the first day of the Mary Fossum Invitational held at Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing, Mich.
The Badgers posted rounds of 312 and 309 on the par-72 course and are two shots behind Illinois for ninth place with 18 holes left to be played on Sunday morning.
Freshman Jeana Dahl (Fargo, N.D.) led the way for UW with two rounds of 77. Her total of 154 puts her in a tie for 31st place.
Katie Elliott (Madison, Wis.) is tied for 38th place at 156. The sophomore recorded a 77 in the second round, two shots better than her opening round score.
Junior Jill Ries (Middleton, Wis.) carded the best round of the day for Wisconsin with a second round 75. Ries is tied for 50th place at 158 along with teammate Jackie Obermueller (River Falls, Wis.), who shot a 78 and an 80.
Sophomore Carissa Werlinger (Naperville, Ill.) closed out the UW effort with rounds of 78 and 82. Her total of 160 puts her in a tie for 56th place.
Michigan State, the host team, leads the 15-team tournament at 594, one stroke better than Southern Methodist. Northwestern's Jennifer Hong has the individual lead at two-over 146.
The final round of the Mary Fossum Invitational begins with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. EDT Sunday at Forest Akers West Golf Course. Live stats can be found at golfstat.com.
