
Badgers Claim Third at Legends of Indiana Shootout

The University of Wisconsin women's golf team finished third at the Legends of Indiana Shootout at the Legends Golf Course in Franklin, Ind., Tuesday.
The Badgers entered the record books three-times in Franklin. After shooting a second-round total of 293, which ranks as the second-best 18-hole score in school history, UW came back on the final day to shoot a 297. Wisconsin's 36-hole total of 597 and 54-hole total of 894 (304-293-297) rank as the second lowest 36 and 54-hole scores in school history.
Katie Elliott (Madison, Wis.) had another outstanding tournament as she finished tied for fifth place at two-over par 218 (75-69-74). She shot career bests for 18-holes (69), 36-holes (144) and 54-holes (218).
Sophomore Jeana Dahl (Fargo, N.D.) also finished in the top 10. Like Elliott, Dahl shot a career low 36-hole (148) and 54-hole total (219) en route to an eight place finish.
Senior Jill Ries (Middleton, Wis.) shot two consecutive rounds of 74 in the final 36 holes to finish the tournament with an 11-over par 227 and a 26th place tie.
Rounding out the scoring for UW were freshman Kelsey Verbeten (Green Bay, Wis.) and sophomore Isabel Alvarez. Verbeten, who has competed in all 12 of UW's rounds this fall, shot season-low 18-hole (75), 36-hole (152) and 54-hole (231) score to finish tied for 44th. Alvarez, the Gijon, Spain native, shot a final-round 78 to finish tied for 65th with a with a 237 (82-77-78).
Campbell University, of the Atlantic Sun Conference, was the tournament champion with an 877 (300-287-290). The Camels' Mary Mattson was the individual champion with a one-under par 215 (70-72-73).
The Badgers wrap up their fall season Oct. 30-31 when they face the College of Charleston in a dual meet down in Charleston, S.C.
