Golf Team Supports Lymphoma Walkathon
October 12, 2006 | Women's Golf
The Wisconsin women's golf team participated in the annual Light the Night Walk on Sept. 28. Light the Night is the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's nationwide evening fundraiser to celebrate and commemorate lives touched by cancer.
The participants walked several miles in the Capital City walk held at Olin Park along the shores of Lake Monona. They carried illuminated balloons with white representing survivors and red for participants.
This is the second year the women's golf team has participated in the event. The team is honoring lymphoma survivor Sean Murphy, the son of assistant coach Lori Murphy. Sean was diagnosed in 2000 with Burkitt's Lymphoma at age 7. Today, he is a healthy teenager, involved in hockey and golf. The team raised over $2,100 for the event this year.
In 2005, the Society's walk raised more than $29 million nationally. Funds raised support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's mission to cure leukemia and lymphoma and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
This year, UW Men's Hockey Coach Mike Eaves served as the Capital City Walk's Honorary Chair.
