
Badgers Claim Fourth Straight Jim Drews Title

The No. 1 Wisconsin men's cross country team claimed its fourth consecutive Jim Drews Invitational Saturday in La Crosse, Wis. The team scored a meet-best 37 points in the 31-team invitational, narrowly edging No. 8 Portland by four points. Portland's John Moore bested 451 runners to win the individual title by covering the 8000-meter course in 24 minutes and 8.29 seconds.
The Badgers placed four runners in the top ten and were led by sophomore Christian Wagner who finished third in 24:19.53. Redshirt freshman Brandon Bethke was the second Wisconsin harrier to cross the finish line, placing fifth overall in 24:29.79. Senior Codie See and freshman Craig Miller followed close behind, finishing seventh and ninth with times of 24:40.94 and 24:41.88, respectively. Freshman Andrew Lacy rounded out the scoring for the UW, placing 13th in 24:51.
Redshirt freshman Ryan Gasper and senior Ben Porter also ran for Wisconsin, placing 16th and 21st in times of 24:54 and 25:01, respectively.
Big Ten rival No. 12 Minnesota also competed at the Drews and finished third with 78 points. Host UW-La Crosse, last season's Division III National Champion, finished fourth with 181 points.
The Badger will next travel to Bloomington, Ind., on Oct. 29th to take part in the Big Ten Conference Championships. Wisconsin will be looking for their eighth consecutive team title.
